Watch sunscreen block UV light transmission.
WATCH THE VIDEO
Theory
Sunscreen protects the skin by absorbing the damaging UV light emitted from the sun.
Apparatus
- Sunscreen (spray variety)
- UV Light
- White Paper
- Clear Plastic Sheet (optional, but makes less mess)
- Tonic Water
Procedure
- Place white paper on table and cover it with the clear plastic sheet.
- Spray sunscreen in a few places on the sheet, covering areas of the paper
- Under visible light, the sprayed areas look unchanged
- Turn off the lights and shine UV light on the area
- Under UV, the white paper will show brightly blue. But areas covered with the sunscreen spray will be dark.
